Abilene native Fraser ends long legislative career
AUSTIN — Troy Fraser always wore boots to work. He always took the stairs. And, he said, he never authored, sponsored or voted for legislation that wasn't in the public's interest.
When the 85th Texas Legislature convened Tuesday, Fraser's bootfalls didn't echo in the halls, nor was he seen in the stairwell, hustling up or down. It was up to others now to carry forth legislation on behalf of Texans.
Fraser, a Republican, ended a political career that spanned almost 30 years at the Capitol in Austin — 1988-1993 in the House, and 1997-2017 in the Senate. Fraser most recently represented District 24, a 17-county area that stretches from south of Kerrville to almost all of Taylor County to the north. Born in Abilene, educated in Coahoma, employed and an employer in Big Spring, and, finally, living in Horseshoe Bay near Marble Falls, Fraser is succeeded by Dawn Buckingham, an ophthalmologist who lives in Lakeway — about 30 miles east of his home.

Troy Fraser (b. August 10, 1949) is a former Republican member of the Texas State Senate, representing District 24 from 1997 to 2017. He was first elected to the chamber in 1996.[1]
Fraser did not seek re-election to the Texas State Senate in 2016.
Biography
Fraser attended Angelo State University and the University of Texas-Arlington.
Fraser's professional experience includes working as the founder and owner of Fraser Industries Incorporated and as the founder and former chief development officer for Pal-Ex Incorporated.[2]

Troy Fraser was elected in 1996 to serve Senate District 24, a 17-county region that is located in the geographic center of Texas.
District 24 comprises the following counties: Bandera, Bell, Blanco, Brown, Burnet, Callahan, Comanche, Coryell, Gillespie, Hamilton, Kerr, Lampasas, Llano, Mills, San Saba and Taylor (part) and Travis (part).
Key cities in the district include Abilene, Brownwood, Belton, Fredericksburg, Killeen, Kerrville, Marble Falls, and Temple. It also contains two major military installations, Fort Hood near Killeen, and Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene.
Senator Fraser serves as chairman of the Senate Committee on Natural Resources. This committee handles the flow of legislation in a number of policy areas, including water resources, air quality, oil and gas, waste, and parks and wildlife.
