Biography
David Toms was born in 1962 and grew up in central western New South Wales in Australia and now lives in Toronto, Canada.
In the late 1960s and early 1970s air travel was still a privilege which most of the Australian population did not have access to on account of physical location and cost. If they did travel, Australians generally travelled by ocean liner especially to Europe with companies that offered 'line' voyages around the world.
The Australian aviation industry at the time was dominated by the two major domestic airlines, Trans Australian Airways (government owned) and Ansett (privately owned), which operated under the "Two Airlines" policy which stipulated that only two airlines were allowed to operate flights between state capital cities and major regional centre airports. International services were offered by Qantas (government owned) with strong ties to BOAC (later British Airways) and Air New Zealand. David Wayne Toms (* 4. Januar1967 in Monroe, Louisiana) ist ein US-amerikanischerProfigolfer der PGA Tour Champions. Er gehört zum Kreis der Major Sieger.
Werdegang
[Bearbeiten | Quelltext bearbeiten]Als Jugendlicher gewann er 1984 die Junior World Golf Championships, besuchte die Louisiana State University und wurde im Jahre 1989 Berufsgolfer.
Nach zwei Siegen auf der zweitgereihten Buy.com Tour holte sich Toms 1997 den ersten Titel auf der PGA Tour, wo er 13 Turniersiege feiern konnte. Sein wichtigster Erfolg war der Gewinn eines Majors, der PGA Championship 2001.
Im Ryder Cup und im Presidents Cup wurde er dreimal eingesetzt, im World Cup spielte Toms einmal für sein Land.
Er ist mit seiner Frau Sonya verheiratet, hat zwei Kinder und seinen Wohnsitz in Shreveport, Louisiana. David Toms betätigt sich seit 2003 mit wachsendem Erfolg als Golfplatzdesigner. Seine David Toms Foundation hilft unterprivilegierten Kindern.
