Synopsis

In this moving play set in current day Los Angeles, the central characters are a married couple, Haig and Sona, whose relationship has reached an impasse. Going back and forth in time, the play juxtaposes the past, a family on the brink of a breakdown, with the present, where Haig lies in a coma. Gathered around Haig's comatose body are his wife, their two daughters, and his mother. As the story unfolds we watch the members of the family deal with the circumstances with a plethora of emotions. Often resorting to humor they each cope with the situation in their own way.

Once more, the playwright offers a work where tragedy and comedy meet at a fragile crossroad, bringing us another look at what it means to be human.

Vahe Berberian, with his long, soft-gray, braided hair and strong, angular features immediately attracts attention. But, it is his personality and his work that captures peoples’ hearts. Vahé Berberian is an Armenian painter, author, playwright and actor. Born in Beirut, Lebanon in 1955 and relocated to Los Angeles in 1976. Vahé has studied art in both Lebanon and the United States, receiving a degree in journalism with honors in 1980. Vahé has participated in more than 30 individual and group exhibitions throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and the Middle East. Berberian has always painted as a complement to writing and acting, never able to forfeit one form of art for another. “Theatre is conditional on what others do, and its temporality is limiting, whereas painting is personal, direct and does not need a mediator. The name Vahé Berberian immediately brings to mind the image of an Armenian man with long silver hair wound up in braids. But his signature look isn’t the only thing Berberian is famous for; his stand-up comedy performed almost entirely in Armenian is what has made his a household name. For the past 13 years, Berberian has brought captivating, relatable comedy to Armenian communities through his shows. With the premiere of his 5^th tour, “Yeté,” the comedian taps into a new comedic theme while still maintaining his cultural backdrop.

With the majority of shows already under his belt, Berberian plans on performing Yeté a few more times before he begins his world tour in September.
