Romero Britto was born in Recife, Brazil in 1963. There is an almost fairy-tale quality to his story. As a creative yet impoverished child from Brazil, Britto often painted images on scraps of cardboard and newspaper. At first, he did not understand art as a profession until his older brother brought home books about famous artists like Toulouse Lautrec. Britto began copying the works of these masters from the books he got from his brother day after day. In the beginning, art was an outlet Britto used to escape even through his teenage years and early twenties when Romero was working toward entry into law school. Romero has explored many media including watercolor, pen and ink, serigraphy, lithography, acrylic, and even finger paint. He had drive and passion to excel and prospered academically, but Britto was continuously pulled toward his creative roots with a determination to learn & succeed, Britto traveled from Brazil to Europe and then from Europe to the United States to exhibit and sell his art.

While Romero Britto maintains, "I was born to paint life in a different way, rejoicing in the beauty our world has to offer," he is certainly no stranger to hardship. While his art has been reproduced to help organizations raise funds for their causes, some of Britto's proudest moments have come from interacting with those who will specifically benefit from his art: painting with children afflicted with often fatal diseases to simply visiting with others who stay at the hospitals that own his oversize murals. Of course, the financial needs of these organizations and the families whom they help are always at the fore.

In 1999, a Britto original, "Cheek to Cheek," brought $100,000 at live auction to the Agassi Foundation in Las Vegas, Nevada. Romero Britto has prided himself for never saying "no" on any occasion to an organization in need. Romero Britto (born October 6, 1963^[1]) is a Brazilian artist, painter, serigrapher, and sculptor.^[2] He combines elements of cubism, pop art, and graffiti painting in his work, using vibrant colors and bold patterns as a visual expression of hope, dreams, and happiness.

Biography

Britto was born in Recife, Brazil and grew up in poverty.^[3]^[4] In 1983 he traveled to Europe to study art, where he was influenced by the works of Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso.^[3] In 1988, he moved to Miami, where his current studio remains.^[5] His first major commission was to design artwork for Absolut Vodka for a 1989 campaign.^[3] In addition to his sculpture and fine art work, his designs have been used by Disney, BMW, IBM, Apple Computers, Grand Marnier, Pepsi, and Royal Caribbean Cruises, and been featured on a variety of consumer goods, such as Barbie dolls and pet collars.^[4]^[3]^[5] According to a 2023 documentary about him, Britto is "the most collected
