Remembering Abubakar Rimi

April 4, 2019 made it nine years after the demise of Alhaji Muhammadu Abubakar Rimi. Rimi lived a fearless, dogged and courageous life worth emulating. He was a vocal politician who cared and assisted the ordinary citizen (talaka). Rimi fought for the common man; that was why before his death, he was regarded as a political activist and true disciple of late Malam Aminu Kano.

His legacies will remain in the hearts of many. He was elected as governor on the platform of Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) in 1979 and did a lot that brought about progress in old Kano and present day Jigawa States.

He gave education a special attention and introduced an adult education  programme in Kano in 1980 which later inspired replicas in other northern states under Agency for Mass Education whereby un-educated adults were trained just as equivalent as secondary school leavers.

Alhaji Muhammadu Abubakar Rimi (1940 – 4 April 2010) was a Nigerian politician who was the governor of Kano State during the Second Nigerian Republic. He also served as Federal Minister of Communications from 1993 to 1995 during the military regime of General Sani Abacha.

Background

Alhaji Abubakar Rimi was born in 1940 in Rimi Village of SumailaLocal Government Area of Kano State, Nigeria. In the early 1960s, he attended an instructor's course at the institute of Administration in Zaria. He obtained a General Certificate of education from the University of London. In 1972, he completed a diploma in international affairs at the London institute of World Affairs, and later obtained a master's degree in International Relations.[2] He served as an instructor at the Clerical Training Center in Sokoto, and later became an Administrative Secretary at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs.[3]

Ya kuma yi aiki a matsayin Ministan Sadarwa na Tarayya daga shekara ta alif ɗari tara da casa'in da uku (1993) zuwa shekara ta alif ɗari tara da casa'in da takwas (1998) a lokacin mulkin soja na Janar Sani Abacha.

Alhaji Abubakar Rimi an haife shi a shekara ta alif dubu daya da dari tara da arba'in (1940) a kauyen Rimi na Sumaila tsohuwar jihar Kano, Najeriya. A farkon shekarun 1960, ya halarci kwas na malanta a makarantar Gudanarwa da ke Zariya. Ya sami Takaddar Shaida ta ilimi daga Jami'ar London. A shekarar 1972, ya kammala difloma kan harkokin kasa da kasa a cibiyar kula da harkokin duniya ta London, sannan daga baya ya samu digiri na biyu a fannin hulɗa da kasashen duniya.[2] Ya yi aiki a matsayin malami a Cibiyar Horar da Malamai a Sokoto, sannan daga baya ya zama Sakataren Gudanarwa a Cibiyar Kula da Harkok
