Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is hoping running mate Nicole Shanahan will appeal to enough disillusioned millennial and Gen Z voters to push them to the White House in November. Shanahan, 38, is a Silicon Valley attorney and entrepreneur who was previously married to Google co-founder Sergey Brin.
Kennedy, 70, formally announced Shanahan as his vice presidential pick for the 2024 general election on March 26 at a rally in Oakland, California. “She’s gonna fight for all those Americans who know what it’s like to skip meals to pay for gasoline and watch food prices climb ever higher and wonder how in the world they’re gonna make it through the grocery store checkout line,” he said, adding that Shanahan would be a voice for young Americans “who have lost faith in their future.”

He has been serving as the 26th United States secretary of health and human services since February 2025. A member of the Kennedy family, he is the son of Senator Robert F. Kennedy and nephew of President John F. Kennedy.
Kennedy grew up in the Washington, D.C. area and Massachusetts, and graduated from Harvard University and the University of Virginia School of Law. He began his career as an assistant district attorney in Manhattan.
