Elusive.Multi-faceted. Undefinable. All words that I would use to describe Dean Blunt. What makes him different from every other artist? Why should you be tuned in? While he’s not necessarily underground due to him accruing quite a passionate, although somewhat niche, fanbase in subsequent years; I would still consider him underrated at most. Roy Chukwuemeka Nnawuchi, commonly known by his stage name, Dean Blunt, is a British singer-songwriter, musician and producer from London. Along with his solo work, Blunt is also part of many other musical projects, his most known ones being experimental hip-hop group Babyfather and Blue Iverson (R&B, soul, funk) all released under his record label “World Music”. I first started listening to him back in 2020 and ever since then he’s quickly become my favorite artist of all time.
Blunt’s been making music as early as 2007, when he was a part of the group “Hype Williams”’ which consisted of him and Russian born artist, Inga Copeland, amongst other members. There’s not much to be

The Enigmatic Dean Blunt
British singer-songwriter, musician, producer, and contemporary artist Dean Blunt has never once limited himself. No singular genre defines him, no singular title brands him, no singular sound expresses the many sides of his creative identity. He has contributed to and created side projects such as Hype Williams, Babyfather, and Blue Iverson. He has collaborated with artists such as Arca, Skepta, and A$AP Rocky, and he has sampled artists like Kate Bush, The Pastels, and Big Star, among others. As a lover of all varieties of music, Blunt’s ability to pull from so many influences immediately entranced me. In my eyes, his body of work reflects the human experience in that it is everything, all at once. It cannot be defined as no person can be defined. The literal bluntness of his monotone voice, experimental, grungy beats, and masterful sampling makes Blunt unlike any artist witnessed before.
It is known that Dean Blunt was born Roy Chukwuemeka Nnawuchi in Hackney, London, but much of his past and background is kept hidden from the public

Dean Blunt
London-based producer Dean Blunt (Roy Nnawuchi) formed Hype Williams with Inga Copeland (Russian vocalist Alina Astrova) to assemble atmospheric deconstructed dance-pop for chill-out rooms. Hype Williams released Hype Williams (Carnivals, 2010), Find Out What Happens When People Stop Being Polite And Start Gettin Reel (De Stijl, 2010), with the psychedelic instrumental Blue Dream and the pseudo-Caribbean ballad Throning, and One Nation (Hippos In Tanks, 2011), with the evocative seven-minute instrumental Mitsubishi. Black Is Beautiful (Hyperdub, 2012) was a collection of short untitled songs (or, better, melodic and rhythmic flotsams), credited simply to Dean Blunt & Inga Copeland. The Attitude Era (2012) collects rarities and "unfinished tracks".
Copeland debuted solo with Because I'm Worth It (2014).
Dean Blunt, instead, quickly transformed into a completely different animal. If the lo-fi mix The Narcissist II (Hippos in Tanks, 2012) was still hip-hop music, the sample-heavy The Redeemer (Hip
