Mostef is a boundary pushing, innovative movement artist, constantly creating new ways in which to express his dynamic talents.

Unique in look and style, Mos Def is a fearless performer with years of experience executing high flying jaw dropping stunts. He is also a creative street performace artist with a seemingly endless array of tricks, and a wild imagination where he sees the world as his playground upon which he showcases his Parkour like way of using his environment.

From the ashes rose the shiny suit era, but there was something else bubbling underground. A cadre of small, independent record labels began releasing all types of rap as an entire new class of young, hungry artists burst onto the scene.

After its founding in 1995, Rawkus “signed some of the top underground talent from the New York area,” whose sounds “helped initiate a resurgence in the New York/East Coast sound. Yasiin Bey (yass-EENBAY; born Dante Terrell Smith; December 11, 1973), formerly known as Mos Def (MOHSSDEF), is an American rapper and actor. A prominent figure in conscious hip hop, he is recognized for his use of wordplay and commentary on social and political issues, such as police brutality, American exceptionalism, and the status of African Americans in the United States.

After embarking on his career in 1994, he joined his siblings in the short-lived rap group Urban Thermo Dynamics (UTD) and guest appeared on albums by Da Bush Babees and De La Soul. In 1996, he and fellow Brooklyn-based rapper Talib Kweli formed the duo Black Star, whose debut album Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star (1998) spawned the singles "Definition" and "Respiration" (featuring Common).
