Jay Sandrich (born February 24, 1932) is an veteran American television director; he is son of film director Mark Sandrich. Jay directed four episodes of Night Court in the series' first season, the episdoes "The Former Harry Stone", "Death Threat", "Once In Love with Harry" and "Some Like it Hot".

Jay Henry Sandrich (February 24, 1932 – September 22, 2021) was an American television director who primarily worked on sitcoms. In 2020, he was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame.[1]
Early life
Jay Sandrich was born in Los Angeles, the son of film director Mark Sandrich.[2] The younger Sandrich attended the University of California, Los Angeles, graduating with a B.A. in 1953.[3]
Career
Preferring to work in television rather than feature film production (which would keep him apart from his young family), Sandrich began his television work in the mid-1950s as a second assistant director with Desilu Productions as an assistant director on I Love Lucy, December Bride, and Our Miss Brooks.[4][5] As Sandrich later noted,

Jay Sandrich was one of the few people who could lay claim to the Golden Age of Television. Not only did he work on the show that defined what the American sitcom would become, "I Love Lucy," his resume was packed with decades of our culture's nightly laughs: he worked with everyone from Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore to Bill Cosby and Tony Randall. If you've ever laughed in front of a television, chances are strong that Jay Sandrich had something to do with it. But Sandrich's career didn't start off that auspiciously. His first two directorial jobs saw him relegated to projects like an educational film for narcotics officers and the now-forgotten television anthology "Science Fiction Theatre" (Syndicated 1955-57). But it wouldn't be long before this son of seasoned Hollywood director Mark Sandrich got his first break after Lucille Ball remembered having worked with his father.
